August 1, 2018

Dear RSD6 Community,

It is amazing that today is August 1st.  Where did the summer go?

On Wednesday, August 29th, the district will welcome students for the first day of school. It is a special day and one that includes a great deal of behind the scenes summer work.

Since June our Facilities Maintenance Professionals have been busy preparing classrooms and schools for the first day. With the late end to last year, the facilities staff had less time than previous years to turn around the buildings. Their commitment to our schools is beyond compare and the dedication to our students among the very best.

Capital Improvements have also been very active and ongoing across the district.  These projects include security cameras at the elementary schools, technology upgrades at all schools, new cafeteria equipment at Goshen Center School, communication upgrades at Warren School, solar power projects at WAMOGO and James Morris, new middle school bathrooms, and the renovation of the large gymnasium at WAMOGO.  Our expectation is that the majority of the projects will be finished by the start of school while some other items will be unveiled early in the fall.

On the academic front, the summer has been a reflective time for school administrators looking back at success and planning future improvements. There has been and will be more, public accolades. WAMOGO enjoyed its highest ever score on the English Reading and Writing section of the 2018 SAT. All schools also contributed to double-digit gains on the 2018 Smarter Balance Assessment. When data becomes public later in August, there will be further cause to celebrate the best academic performance in the history of Region 6.

In summary, this summer has been about moving forward. We know that progress only comes with the hard work of students and staff coupled with the support of families and community. In the past year our district has taken some great steps forward and as we embark on the new school year please know that we are going to keep working even harder for all students, families, and the communities of RSD6.

Best wishes to all for the balance of summer. I look forward to the first day on the 29th.

Regards,

Chris
