Public Hearing on Planned Amendment to Region 6 Education Plan

August 27, 2019

Dear Region 6 Community,

Last night, the Region 6 Board of Education approved a Public Hearing for Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. in the James M. Eisenhaure Auditorium at WAMOGO.

The purpose of this public hearing is to hear feedback on the proposed question:

MOVED, that the Board of Education for Regional School District No. 6, recommend amendment of the Regional School District No. 6 Plan to allow 6th grade students in Warren, Morris and Goshen to attend school other than the local elementary school located in each town, pursuant to the provisions of Connecticut General Statutes Section 10-47c, and set a referendum in each town for November 5, 2019 from 6 am to 8 pm to address the following question:

Shall the Regionalization Plan for Regional School District No. 6 be amended to provide that “No Kindergarten through Grade 5 pupils shall be transported from their current local school to another town in the district.”?  _____Yes   _____No

The hearing will begin with a presentation on the work group recommendation from April 2019 and then provide time for public feedback in accordance with the provisions of Connecticut General Statutes Section 10-47c. The question the Board of Education will consider is only a change of one grade level to the current elementary configuration. I want to reassure everyone, and prevent speculation, that this question to be proposed does not contemplate closing a school or create any other changes.

It is expected that the Board of Education will take action on the recommendation and the proposed question at its next meeting on Monday, September 16, 2019. Should the Board of Education approve the proposed question, it would go to referendum in each town on November 5, 2019.

If you are unable to join this meeting, please email me directly at cleone@rsd6.org with any questions or concerns to be shared with the Board of Education.

Thank you,

Chris
