Dear RSD6 Community,

Last week, I started having virtual lunches with students and they brought an important reminder of all the good still found in education.  The smiles, the ideas, the laughter, reminded me that childhood is still special and this work matters now more than ever.  While the students also gave me homework on distance learning, and eventually re-opening, I want to share the spirit of doing some good for others.

As many know, we have countless first responders and healthcare workers in our communities.  These front line workers, many of whom are our residents, are the true heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Therefore, thanks to an idea that started with a student (James), I am setting out on a mission to collect 1,000 thank you cards by May 6th.  I need the help of all of our students and community and if everyone does just one card, we will easily surpass this goal.  Completed cards can be dropped off in the mailbox at the house on 35 WAMOGO Road in Litchfield.  I will then safely deliver the cards to area healthcare workers and hospitals.  We can do this together and thank those that are saving lives.

Today, I am also excited to share another opportunity for the Class of 2020.  Thanks to an anonymous donor, I am pleased to announce a $500 scholarship for a graduating senior from both LHS and WAMOGO who intends to study and enter the healthcare profession following their graduation.  If you are this senior, please email me your reasons for wanting to enter the healthcare profession.  Responses should not exceed 300 words and must be received by noon on May 14th.  An announcement on the scholarship recipients will be made on June 1st.

In closing, I ask that we all keep being and sharing the good in our world.

Stay healthy.  Stay strong.  Keep living forward.
