Dear Region 6 Community,

This week we celebrate some important events, Educator Appreciation and Screen Free Week.

In recognition of these two significant points in the year, I have a request and an announcement.

Thank an Educator

This week, I am requesting that everyone thank an educator.  We all know an educator that has made a difference in our lives.  We also know how educators assist our children everyday.

Now more than ever, in this unique time, the educators in our district have gone above and beyond to support children.  Our educators have learned new things and are providing instruction in a manner never previously imagined.

Thank you to all the educators who have risen and accepted the challenges we all face.  Our children and our community are all stronger for your efforts.

Screen Free Friday

Before the start of Facilitated Distance Learning (FDL), I had accepted a challenge to participate in Screen Free Week (no emails, texts, or social media during the week of May 4th).

With the change in the world and education, that challenge is not possible.  However, at the suggestion of some students, coupled with feedback of too much screen time, there is a way for everyone to participate.

This Friday, May 8th, we will have a special schedule and assignments so that everyone can have a needed break from their screens.  The modified Friday for everyone across the district is as follows:

1)   1-hour of reading (a real book)

2)   1-hour of conversation with a family member (not on a cell phone)

3)   1-hour of enjoying some spring weather outdoors (in compliance with all social distancing requirements)

4)   No one will "login" or have time on a computer

5)   There will be no use of district email or social media

6)   Take a needed break from your cell phone, TV or video games

This schedule and assignments will take the place of the regular FDL schedule. This still counts as a day of FDL.   There is no requirement to submit anything.   Remember, this is a screen free observance, so just enjoy a break from your screen, your device, and reimagine the world prior to technology.

Stay strong.  Stay healthy.  Live forward.

Chris
