Child Find

Regional School District No. 6 assumes responsibility for the location, identification, and evaluation of all children from birth through age 21 who require special education and related services.  This Child Find obligation includes children enrolled in private schools, migrant and homeless children.

Children under the age of 3 meeting eligibility standards may qualify to receive services through community agencies under the sponsorship of the Connecticut Birth to Three System.  Children may be referred to the Birth to Three System by parents, hospitals, pediatricians, nursing services, social services, and school staff.  District personnel participate in transition meetings to prepare for an eligible child’sentry into the school district on their third birthday, and to ensure that the plan for a free appropriate public education (FAPE) is in place.  Parents and other referring parties may contact the Special Services office at (860) 567-6642 for additional information.

Preschool children ages three through five who may require special education services are screened through the district Special Services office. Parents and other referring parties may contact the office at (860)567-6642 for additional information, and to schedule an appointment.

Students in our district in grades Kindergarten through 12, whose progress in school is considered unsatisfactory, may be referred to the Planning and Placement Team (PPT). Parents notified within five days of the referral.  Students who may be gifted and talented are identified, referred, and evaluated.  Parents and other referring parties may contact any district school or the Special Services office at (860)567-6642 for additional information.
