Fino Alla Fine

Dear RSD6 Community,

Over the next 36 hours, we will graduate over 190 seniors combined from Litchfield High School and WAMOGO Regional High School. The celebration of the Class of 2020 will bring a formal close to the 2019-2020 school year. As we celebrate our students, it is important to reflect on the year and all the success.

The year started with a convocation that for the first time included two districts, all staff, and talked about the importance of coming together as a community. In those opening hours, it was about setting aside the past and focusing on the future for the greater good. In the last 90 days, we have defined togetherness, strength, and community more than anyone could have ever imagined last August.

Since March 12
th, we faced a pandemic, closure, and the need to redesign the fundamental model for instruction. We overcame obstacles in past practice, use of technology, and resources, to provide engaging educational opportunities for our students. We connected in new methods and supported each other as we went through many stages of the virus and its impact on society, the economy, and education.

In the last week, we have faced the greatest challenge to our community – one that has hurt to our core. We lost two students to a tragic accident, we grieved, we mourned, and paid our respects.  During this dark time, we also witnessed many parts of our community coming together to support families and students.

As many know, I am a sports fan and in soccer, my loyalty goes to my family roots, northern Italy, and Juventus. I grew up on an Italian saying - “Fino Alla Fine.”  This saying is translated in English into “Until the End.”  For my dad, and what he gave to me, was that this was more than a saying but rather a way of life, or an inspiration. In review, this perfectly defines this past year, because despite countless obstacles we worked hard and persevered until the end.

As we close the year, I could not be prouder of our students and staff and could not be more thankful for our community.  Together we have been through a great deal but proven to be stronger each day.

Congratulations to all on the completion of the year. There will be more to accomplish this summer, we will face more obstacles in the future, but we will continue together “Fino Alla Fine.”

Stay healthy. Stay strong. Keep living forward.

Chris
