Dear RSD6 Community,

As a follow-up to my Monday letter, I wanted to take some time to reach back out on important topics. From many emails received, it is clear that race, discrimination, and isolation are understandably weighing on many minds and the minds of our children. Recent events have brought forth a range of emotions. Please be assured that our district, and every school, is a place that stands against all forms of racism and discrimination. We are, and always will be, committed to a culture of learning and growth.

As stated before, we have more work to accomplish and much more to do in education. With the start of 2020-2021 school year, as we are able to gather and reopen our schools, we will seek ways to come together and hold conversations with our students, families and community.  We will support all families, and together, create an even more inclusive environment. This work and discussions will take time, but I believe they can be accomplished together.

In closing, I wanted to share a resource list (CSDE Resources)that was provided yesterday from the Connecticut State Department of Education.  These resources are shared to assist with ongoing conversations. I encourage our teachers, families, and community members to seek out these resources as a way to navigate conversations.

As with many things in this time, there will be more to follow.

Stay healthy. Stay strong. Live forward for a better future.

Chris
