Budget Written on Chalkboard

Dear Region 6 Community,

On Monday, April 6, 2020, the Region 6 Board of Education approved the 2020- 2021 budget at $20,238,358. A copy of the budget can be found HERE.  The Board will hold its annual Budget Hearing via teleconference on Monday, April 20, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. and you can connect by dialing 1 502-430-2855 with PIN: ‪620 780 877#.   The district has also established a new email 2021budget@rsd6.org for public budget comments.

Please note, that the Budget Vote is scheduled for Monday, May 4, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. pending clarification of rules provided under the Governor’s Executive Order.

Although this budget began in the fall, it has faced changes and challenges in recent weeks as we all adjust to a society and day-to-day inclusive of COVID-19.  Over the last three years, the district has seen impressive academic gains, stable budgets, and re-invested over $2M in capital projects.  While we expect to continue our success, there is much uncertainty in our world.

Therefore, effective, March 30, 2020, the district put a hold on all current and future capital expenditures with the exception of the ASTE roof at WAMOGO that has been leaking for over a decade. On April 6th, the Board of Education took action to credit the three towns with $500,000 from the 2020-2021 total town assessment. This represents a total local reduction of 2.8%.

This is a unique time for education and our district.  We continue to adjust.  We will support our children, our community, and our staff during these challenges.  We are stronger together.

Stay healthy.  Stay strong.  Live forward.

Heather Connor,  Board of Education, Chairman

Christopher G. Leone, Superintendent
