Dear Region 6 Community,

I am writing to share an important operations and fiscal update.  On Monday evening, during a Special Finance Committee Meeting, I made the recommendation to pause Capital Projects for the 2020-2021 school year.  The only exception to this pause will be replacing the roof on the AgSci wing of WAMOGO that has leaked for over a decade.

This recommendation, supported by the Finance Committee, did not come without much deep consideration about our communities.

The district is very proud with our three-year history of reinvesting in our facilities.  In the last two summers we have renovated a gymnasium, an auditorium, abated flooring, upgraded security, and retooled our technology.  Although preparations had begun to continue that work this summer, it did not seem right at a time with so much uncertainty.

The social and fiscal impact from the COVID-19 pandemic is not currently fully understood and may not be for some months.  Therefore, this coming Monday, April 6th, with the pause in Capital Projects, the Board of Education is expected to approve a recommendation to credit $500,000 for 2020-2021 assessments to the sending towns of Warren, Morris and Goshen.

The credit would be pro-rated as follows:

Town

2020-2021 Assessment%

Proposed Credit

Warren

18.14%

$90,704.65

Morris

32.23%

$161,169.42

Goshen

49.63%

$248,125.94

TOTAL

100%

$500,000.00

I pride this district on being a partner to our families, communities, and only together, will we get through these times.  I believe this decision by the district is consistent with that partnership.

Stay healthy.  Stay strong.  Live forward.

Chris
