Dear Region 6 Community,

Last night, the Region 6 Board of Education unanimously approved the following referendum question for November 5, 2019:

Shall the Regionalization Plan for Regional School District No. 6 be amended to provide that “No Kindergarten through Grade 5 pupils shall be transported from their current local school to another town in the district.”?  _____Yes   _____No

The question is based on a recommendation of the Work Group on Enrollment and School Design from April 2019 and a public hearing held earlier this month. This referendum question and process is in accordance with the provisions of Connecticut General Statutes Section 10-47c.

The recommendation and public hearing presentation can be found at the following link:

School Design Work Group-Public Hearing–September 3, 2019

The referendum considers a change of one grade level to the current elementary configuration (K-6).   If approved, this change will not occur before the 2021-2022 school year and will be accomplished with public input.  I want to continue to reassure everyone that this question does not contemplate closing a school or create any other changes.

In early October, the district will issue a mailing to all community residents that clarifies the difference between a “yes” or “no” vote.  The district, by policy, can not issue any endorsement on the question.

Should you have any questions, please email me directly at cleone@rsd6.org

Thank you,

Chris
